RiskSummit 2008

John Snow to Bring Unique Perspective to 2008 Keynote Address

John Snow

Former Secretary of the Treasury and current chairman of Cerberus Capital Management, John Snow will keynote this year’s RiskSummit from his unique public-private perspective, addressing issues critical to U.S. mortgage finance and investment—potential impacts of likely regulatory legislation, the growing importance of hedge funds and private equity in mortgage investment, what to expect now and in the future from global investors, and the need for dramatic ongoing improvement in the management of risk.

Help Define the Post-Crisis Mortgage Industry
For the three days of RiskSummit, leading industry thinkers—buyside and sellside risk managers, data managers and analysts, academic theoreticians, system designers, implementers, and managers, legislative experts and government regulators—will share, probe, analyze, and evaluate the mortgage-risk process, not incidentally building valuable new professional relationships in the process.

Together these industry colleagues will explore the much-increased post-meltdown importance of risk data and analytics in reestablishing the credibility of mortgage finance—while enjoying the conference’s informal, face-to-face problem-solving dynamic: agreeing, disagreeing, proposing, and ultimately helping to shape a new paradigm for managing mortgage risk.

Registered attendees and full guests can select one of the following Monday afternoon activities:

    • Golf A shotgun best-ball tournament played on one of La Costa’s two PGA Championship 18-hole golf courses, both beautiful and traditionally designed. Each course challenges golfers’ shot-making capabilities, both off the tee and on the greens.
    • Spa The new Spa at La Costa is elevating the spa experience—when you arrive, you realize you've left everyday life far, far behind. Relax completely with massage, body treatments, tonics at the Spa, or enjoy wellness at the world-renowned Chopra Center.

    • Catamaran Sailing on the San Diego Bay is a beautiful adventure—one to remember for a lifetime. You will experience the thrill of fast sailing on the lightweight Aolani Catamaran and the "Stars & Stripes." It is arguably the most widely-recognized name among all American sailing vessels. Team Dennis Conner's original Stars & Stripes went to Australia in 1987 and won back the America's Cup in Fremantle, defeating the Aussies' Kookaburra III.
    • Bike Tour Experience the California coast by mountain bike on a relaxed, guided tour. The route covers scenic streets and picturesque neighborhoods—swaying palms, blue skies, spectacular homes, and one of the world’s most beautiful natural coastlines.
    • Kayaking No experience necessary for novice paddlers in this amazing guided tour of the La Jolla Ecological Reserve and Sea Caves. After instruction and a safety talk, your well-trained guide shows you how to launch a stable, open-top kayak, paddle along the shoreline in a group, and enjoy an unforgettable kayak ocean adventure.

    La Costa Resort and Spa
The “new” La Costa Resort and Spa is a wonder to behold. Thanks to a $140 million renovation, this legendary Southern California destination resort has embarked on a new chapter in its luxurious history. Finely appointed guest rooms and suites, nestled in 400 acres of lush gardens amid unspoiled coastal foothills, are steeped in Spanish Colonial charm. Among La Costa's unique indulgences: the soothing ambiance and restorative treatments of a world-class spa, the Chopra Center for Well-Being, two classic PGA Tour golf courses, state-of-the-art tennis courts, gourmet-level California coastal dining.

Also featured at the new La Costa:

    • Kidtopia La Costa’s new club for kids, Kidtopia takes children’s resort programs to a whole new level. A magical forest, sea creatures in an “underwater” wonderland, supervised crafts, dancing on an interactive lighted game floor, and much, much more. To learn more, call (800) 854-5000.
    • Vibz La Costa’s new ultra-cool teen lounge. Designed to resemble the nearby “underground” Stewart Mine, Vibz gives our young guests (10-years-old and up) a place of their own to hang, make friends, and enjoy high-tech electronica, games, and activities. Call (800) 854-5000 for info.
    • La Costa Fitness Center Eight thousand square feet of the latest athletic equipment with a 270-degree view of La Costa's two championship golf courses, includes cardiovascular training, strength circuit, free weights, aerobic studio, spinning room, pilates studio, outdoor pool, daily athletic classes. For more information: (800) 854-5000.
    • Swimming La Costa now offers seven pristine pools, strategically placed throughout the resort, including a family pool for young children (complete with a sandy beach), private poolside cabanas, the Waterslide Pool with three new waterslides and waterplay area, and, of course, north San Diego county’s world-famous snorkeling, surfing, and bathing beaches a short drive away.
    • Shopping, Galleries, Amusement Parks Choice shopping and browsing in the city of Carlsbad and surrounding area (collectively known as "The Flower Capital of the World"), all within ten-to-thirty minutes of the resort. The Carlsbad Company Stores feature upscale shopping at affordable prices in a Mediterranean village setting. A little farther: Del Mar, the seaside community known for upscale shopping, horse racing, and Hollywood movie stars. A bit farther (but still reasonably close): LEGOLAND, San Diego Wild Animal Park, the world-famous San Diego Zoo.
